For the next few weeks, Dick Pierson will be writing some of his NASCAR memories on the Olympia Charger Blog. Dick is somehow forced to take a few weeks off, as he explains in his own words. In the meantime, the team is very admirative of Dick, who fought his cancer in a great way. Hey, but didn't we all expect that from the guy who set the teams lap record on the Le Mans 24 Hours track?
For those of you that are regular readers, and those are not, I decided to use some of my forced down time to reflect a little on the experience of NASCAR from the inside looking out, thirty years ago that is, not in today’s faster paced world. But, before I do that I have even better information for you. The reason I have “forced down time” right now is Prostate surgery. It was discovered on December 23rd that yours truly had Prostate Cancer. I am one of the lucky ones, I found it early and was able to have surgery to rid my body of the dreaded disease. For those of you over 40 years old, yes I said 40, after you have completed reading this article, pick up the phone and call your Doctor for an appointment to have the rectal examine, that’s how they found mine. Do not wait, do it now and do it every other year for the rest of your life. Do it, don’t wait ! If you need advice on how best to approach the subject, pick a type of treatment or just want to talk to somebody that has experienced the problem, feel free to write to me via e-mail. I will be happy to take the time to discuss it with you.
