Hershel McGriff racing a Ford at Daytona !?!
This is really one for the experts! Now, y'all know that Hershel drove mostly Mopars, like the West Virginia Almost Heaven Charger when he teamed up with Richard Petty. Judging from the picture that François Breton, an Oly fan from France, dugg out on the web, Hershel also raced a Ford at the famous Florida track. Which race was it and what year? Whoever gets it right first, wins a 2008 Oly Express team shirt!
Is this the Daytona 500 in 1977 with the Delbert Puro team, and the car is actually #99? He did not qualify for the 500, and was the first retiree in the second 125 qualifier after completing only 5 laps.

Ah, thanks to Tom Taylor, we seem to have a good lead here. Who can confirm this?

This below URL shows a different view of the car in question. It does not identify where it is or who is the driver, but it shows it to be actually #99; McGriff is hiding the first 9 in his posed pic.
This new pic appears to be Charlotte, and Bobby Isaac drove the Puro car there in 1975, and Dick Trickle in 1978. I will state that I think the new pic is Charlotte 1978, with Trickle. I base that on the hat that the crewman on the right side of the car is wearing, It is a "SuperAmerica" racing cap,one of Trickles short track sponsor at the time.
Hope this helps,
Tom

In 1976 with Donlavey also fielding the #99 for Dick Trickle at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
I think mcgriff is in a Donlavey torino.
