Le Mans Classic G6: DeKon Chevrolet Monza
During the wild 70s, when sex was safe and racing dangerous, american engineer and race driver Horst Kwech teamed up with chassis expert Lee Dykstra to build the ultimate Porsche terror out of a mundane Chevrolet Monza.
Using 8 pot Lookheed calipers up front, a high revving dry sumped Chevy 350 smallblock V8 and huge, if not humungus, wing and spoiler paired with a curb weight of less than 1100 kg, the Dekon Monza was an IMSA front runner.
They tried their luck with little success at Le Mans in 1976 with Keyser and Wachs and in 1978 with Kirby, Friselle and Hotchkiss. In 2008, Gilles Ceron, a well known French V8 wrencher and national drag racing pioneer, will bring a recreation to race at Le Mans Classic. It's cool to see one more exotic ride making its comeback at the greatest vintage race in the world.
