As you all know, Le Mans Classic is spread in 6 classes by car period. They each alternate on the big Le Mans track during the Classic 24 Hours event. The classification is not by car but by team. Each team consists of six cars, whereas each car is from one different period. At the end of the race the total distance that each car of a given team has accomplished is added and this determines the overall ranking.
Sounds complicated? A little, I must admit! However this ensures that the overall classification is dependant of what happens during 24 Hours. So the first target for each competitor is to finish each stint! The second target is to go fast and make as many laps as possible! This year our team is quite amazing! I talked to the organizers to group us with friends Alain Ruede and Eric DeDonker. Alain will race a stunning reconstruction of one of the 1960 Cunningham Corvettes. Eric will race in his well proven Shelby Cobra and will have a huge advantage in terms of driving, as he is going to run the modern 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Ford GT next week!
The three others were picked by the organizers and I must say that the choice is brilliant! So here is our complete team, which will have race number 23:
Grid 1: Novo/Latour on Bugatti 44
Grid 2: Cousseau/Cointreau on Allard J2
Grid 3: Alain Ruede on Chevrolet Corvette 327
Grid 4: DeDoncker/Kicq on Shelby Cobra 289
Grid 5: Pascal Gaudard on Chevrolet Corvette 427
Grid 6: Christophe Schwartz on Dodge Charger 426
As you may have noticed, each car has the right number of cylinders, which is 8 !
