I got news from "the other" Oly Dodge. One of Ray Elder's former Charger is freshly back from its restoration and was brought by owner Doug Schultz to the Monetrey Historics this August. Elder raced this very Dodge in the early 1970s and won his second Riverside, the 400 International on June 18, 1972, in it.
His runner-ups were Benny Parsons (1971 Mercury) and Donnie Allison (1972 Matador), which tells you what a great success that race was for the Winston West regular! 1972 was also the year of Ray Elder's fourth straight Winston Grand National West championship title. Thing were a bit let succesful in 1973, when the racing farmer from Caruthers, CA, finished 3rd in the Riverside 500 and third in the chamionship. The Dodge is back to its 1973 configuration and looking good a ever.
So congratulations to Mr. Doug Schultz for bringing back this great piece of NASCAR Grand National history! Now, would'nt it be great to have both Chargers run side by side at PIR with Hershel McGriff and Ray Elder at their wheels ?
